What can go in a dumpster
Most everyday project debris is straightforward. A few categories need separate handling, and rules can vary, so this is a general guide rather than a definitive list for any one load.
Usually fine
- Household junk from cleanouts: furniture, boxes, general clutter
- Remodel debris: wood, drywall, flooring, fixtures
- Yard waste: branches, brush, and general garden debris
- Roofing and construction debris from typical projects
Usually needs separate handling
- Hazardous materials: paints, solvents, chemicals, and asbestos-containing material
- Batteries, electronics, and appliances containing refrigerants
- Tires, and liquids of any kind
- Concrete and dirt in large amounts, which are very heavy and may need a different approach
When in doubt, ask first
If you are unsure whether something can go in, mentioning it when you ask for an estimate is the easiest way to find out. A short description of the main debris types, the project, and your location is all it takes to get an answer shaped around your load.
